The Augustinerkeller restaurant is one of the last ancient monastery cellars in Vienna's historic city center. The splendid ancient vaulting of the cellar has been well preserved throughout the centuries and can still be seen. It was part of the former fortifications of the Albertina Bastion and was built in the first half of the 16th century. Only in 1924 the former fortifications were rebuilt and changed into a restaurant. Since 1954 the restaurant has been run by the family Bitzinger, and they are proud to have made Augustinerkeller a popular meeting place for lovers of the Viennese Heurigen both among local people and visitors. The restaurant has a vinotheque and also the Basteistöckl, an ideal location for groups and events.
