Alex Katz
Celebrating 95 Years

From 18 May 2022

The ALBERTINA Museum celebrates Alex Katz’s 95th birthday with a wide-ranging presentation. Katz, born in New York in 1927, numbers among the United States’ most important exponents of contemporary art. Even before pop art hit the scene, he had already set out into the realm of the figurative along a highly individual path characterized by equal measures of rationalism, sensuousness, and abstraction. Large-format works afford impressions of Maine’s landscapes and glimpses into the life of its well-situated leisure society. This exhibition’s selection from Katz’s output encompasses paintings, sculptures, drawings, cutouts, printed graphics, and book projects with contemporary poets drawn from the ALBERTINA Museum’s extensive holdings, which can boast one of the world’s largest collections of his works.

The exhibition is on view from 18 May until 21 August 2022.
