Andy Warhol. Cars
With Works by Warhol, Fleury, Longo, and Szarek
Until 16 May 2010
The ALBERTINA Museum’s first exhibition in 2010 highlights the Pop artist Andy Warhol’s series Cars. Produced as a commission for the Daimler Company on the occasion of the automobile’s centenary in 1986, the series ranks among the masterpieces of Warhol’s late oeuvre. It was his last work before his sudden death in 1987 and remained unfinished: only thirty-five of altogether eighty planned works were completed. The show in the Albertina presents Warhol’s series in its entirety again after twenty years. Besides further works by Sylvie Fleury, Robert Longo, and Vincent Szarek from the Daimler Art Collection, it is on display for the first time in Austria.
