Sonja Gangl
DANCING WITH THE END
Until 12 October 2014
In 2013, the ALBERTINA Museum is dedicating a first solo museum exhibit to the Austrian artist Sonja Gangl. In large-format drawings, Gangl works with the enlargement of details and concentration on particular details. Her new works exhibited in the ALBERTINA Museum show human eyes, sometimes as a pair, sometimes alone. With its function of establishing contact with the world, the eye is an instrument that can override distances, is itself an extremely vulnerable organ, but must at the same time keep a threatening world at a distance. Thus, the eyes that Sonja Gangl zooms in on appear to demand that the viewer move back a step to show respect.
